Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
