Fans Call for Detainment of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are calling for that a individual who breached a fence and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram feed includes clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, earning several for best costume and production design.
