Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.
“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
Authorities released video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.
“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
