Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
