The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
Price's death comes shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
